Irelyn Thomson is the Public Policy and Government Affairs Intern at our firm, where she monitors and analyzes pending legislation in the Florida Legislature and the United States Congress that may impact any aspect of family law. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies with a focus on Political Communications at the University of Texas at Austin, where she has been recognized on the Dean’s List.
She currently serves as a Legislative Assistant in the Office of Representative Philip Cortez in Austin, Texas, where she conducts legislative research, drafts key documents, and manages constituent relations. Previously, she worked as a Congressional Intern in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she handled constituent correspondence, conducted Capitol tours, and assisted with casework. Her experience also includes a district internship in the Office of Congressman John Carter, where she facilitated communication between constituents and Capitol Hill.
With a strong background in legislative affairs, Irelyn has been actively engaged in government and policy from a young age. She worked for four years in the Florida House of Representatives as a Page and Messenger, beginning at just 13 years old, gaining firsthand experience in the legislative process. She was also selected as a Florida Girls State Delegate, further honing her leadership and policy analysis skills.
Beyond her policy work, Irelyn has demonstrated strong leadership skills as the Special Events Chair for Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, successfully managing a $40,000 budget to organize large-scale events. She is a prolific writer and a skilled bipartisan communicator, adept at crafting clear, persuasive messaging on complex policy issues.
